Post-Op Frenectomy

1. Manage Discomfort

It’s normal to experience some soreness or mild swelling after your procedure. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, can help. Follow the dosage instructions on the package or as directed by our office.

2. Oral Hygiene

Keep the area clean to prevent infection. Gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water (½ teaspoon salt in 8 oz. of warm water) several times a day, especially after meals. Avoid brushing directly over the surgical site for the first 24 hours, then resume gentle brushing.

3. Diet

Stick to soft foods for the first few days, such as yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, or soup. Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods that may irritate the surgical site.

4. Activity

Rest for the remainder of the day after your procedure. Avoid strenuous activity for the first 24–48 hours to minimize bleeding or swelling.

5. Exercises (if recommended)

Some patients may be instructed to perform gentle tongue or lip stretches to improve mobility. Follow the exercises provided by your dentist or specialist carefully.

6. Monitor for Complications

Contact our office immediately if you notice excessive bleeding, severe pain not relieved by medication, signs of infection (such as pus, fever, or increased swelling), or if the area appears to be reopening.

7. Follow-Up Appointment

Attend any scheduled follow-up visits so we can monitor healing and ensure optimal results.

Remember: Healing times vary, but most patients notice significant improvement within a week or two. Proper care at home helps ensure a smooth recovery and long-lasting results.
